Preserving Character During Conversion in Birgisch

Article 71 of the Birgisch building and zoning regulations (Bau- und Zonenreglement) states that for the Maiensäss and Weiler zone, the character of converted Ökonomiegebäude should largely be preserved. The same article states that, for construction in this zone, the log structure, dry-stone masonry and plinth may only be altered to an insignificant degree.

During conversion, old timber joints, mortar joints and cavities can therefore remain in place. In Birgisch, checking these spots is therefore part of the general process for assessing a property.

Before the Cavities Close Up Again

During such a conversion, I check the retained joints, timber joints and cavities for entry points and signs of infestation while they are still open. Whatever I find, I treat as gently as possible, then I seal the access points.

Cavities in dry-stone walls also come up on wasp nests in Natischer Berg.

Birgisch and Mund Are Included

Since the merger on 1 January 2013, Birgisch and Mund have been part of the municipality of Naters. Each has its own building and zoning regulations. They belong to my service area just as much as the valley floor of Naters, and the process is the same.

Process

Process for the Preserved Old Building Fabric

01

Inspect the Old Fabric

I look at the joints, timber joints and cavities that remain in the Ökonomiegebäude.

02

Identify the Infestation

I identify the type of infestation and treat it as gently as possible.

03

Seal While It Is Still Open

I seal any entry points I find before the conversion closes them up again.

04

Follow-up Check

After the treatment, I check again to make sure the measures are working.

You can reach me around the clock, including weekends and public holidays. From my base in Naters, journey times across the whole of Upper Valais are short. In an emergency, call me. I assess how urgent it is, start the immediate measure and take care of the follow-up work afterwards.

Frequently asked

Questions about Pest control in Naters

If the Stadel is in the Maiensäss and Weiler zone, its character should largely be preserved under Art. 71 BZR Birgisch. Joints, timber joints and cavities can therefore remain in place. I check these spots before the conversion closes them up again.
