Mullions From 10 cm, No External Cladding
Article 44 of the Leuk building and zoning regulations governs window openings. In the village conservation zone, window size, division and arrangement must match the surrounding buildings. New window openings in existing old buildings are permitted, but external window linings and cladding are not. For old timber buildings, new window openings also require a side or centre mullion of at least 10 cm.
On such windows, the mullion and reveal therefore stay visible and are not covered by smooth cladding. The requirements on linings, cladding and mullions apply to new window openings in existing old buildings, not to every window in Leuk.
The Unclad Reveal
Timber mullions and an unclad reveal have edges, joints and corners. For me, these are typical points of entry for webs and egg sacs, which I treat specifically.
