Sebastiansplatz Pedestrian Zone

After the 1993 storm, the old town and Sebastiansplatz were restored during reconstruction, as described by the Swiss Heritage Society (Schweizer Heimatschutz) for the 2026 Wakker Prize. The square has been designed as a pedestrian zone ever since, with the design dating from 1994 to 1995.

For work on the upper floors around the square, permission for a lifting platform to drive up and stand there is therefore not a given.

When No Platform Can Get There

I clarify with the municipality beforehand whether and where a lifting platform can access and stand. If that does not work, I work by rope access. The main page has more on assessment of the affected surfaces.

If the building is also in the old town zone or village core zone, it is worth a look on old town commission for pigeon deterrence.

I assess the facade at Sebastiansplatz and identify the affected surfaces.

I discuss with the municipality beforehand where a lifting platform could stand.

If no platform is allowed onto the square, I work by rope access.

I check after a few weeks whether the surfaces have stayed clean.
