Object No. 4994 in the ISOS Federal Inventory
Leuk's old town is listed in the ISOS federal inventory, as of 1997, as object no. 4994, with the highest rating for architectural, historical and spatial qualities. The document names the Bishop's Castle keep, the church tower and the town hall tower specifically.
It recommends placing particular weight on protecting the closed old town silhouette with its numerous towers. This is a recommendation of the inventory, but for an installation on these buildings, I still use it as a benchmark.
Clarifying the Fixing With the Municipality in Advance
Because the inventory gives particular weight to the closed old town silhouette, I do not carry out a standard installation on these towers and facades without consultation. I clarify the fixing method and the visibility of a netting or spike installation with the municipality beforehand.
Besides the towers, the same inventory (as of 1997) describes log-built residential houses in the side lanes, whose timber facades are mostly unrendered. On such facades, any fixing sits visibly directly on the timber, and I include this in the same consultation.
