Balcony Glazing Only as an Overall Facade Concept

Retrofitting balcony glazing in Visp is governed by Art. 34 of the building and zoning regulations. On multi-family buildings, balcony glazing is only approved as part of an overall design concept for the relevant facade, and the building permit application must include the property owners' written consent or their authorisation. Art. 33 additionally permits unheated, single-storey conservatories on south, west and east facades under certain conditions.

I therefore assume that in a multi-family building in Visp, practically all the glazed balconies share the same construction, with the same running tracks, profiles and rebates. If one balcony is infested, the identically built neighbouring balconies usually are too.

Treating Running Tracks and Profiles Inside and Out

With glazed structures, webs and egg sacs often sit in the running tracks of the folding and sliding sashes and in the upper profiles, sheltered from wind and barely reachable from outside. Before I apply the long-term treatment, I remove them mechanically. For On tall facades, I use rope access when needed.

At a multi-family building, planning goes through the property management or the owners' association, and I treat the whole glazed facade in a single appointment rather than balcony by balcony. Elsewhere, the process depends on different building requirements, such as the north-south gable orientation in St. German.

Process

01

Inspecting the Balconies

I inspect the glazed balconies or conservatories and determine the affected area.

02

Removing Webs From the Tracks

I remove webs and egg sacs from the running tracks and profiles before treatment.

03

Long-term Treatment Inside and Out

I apply the treatment specifically to reveals, soffits and profiles, inside and out.

04

Appointment Through the Management

For multi-family buildings, I plan the treatment for the whole facade through the property management or the owners' association.

Frequently asked

Questions about Spider treatment in Visp

Usually not. Webs and egg sacs often sit in the running tracks and profiles of the glazing, and treatment from outside barely reaches them there. That is why I treat inside and out.
