Pigeon Deterrence on Blind Casings Above the Pavement in Visp

Art. 35 of the building and zoning regulations requires sun blinds, roller blinds and awnings in Visp to have a height of 2.20 metres above the pavement at their lowest point, and their projection must be 50 centimetres less than the width of the pavement. This means the casings can end up quite close to the pavement.

Pigeons find a horizontal perch on a casing like this. Their droppings then fall onto the pavement, the entrance or passers-by. A bird protection net on the facade behind it changes nothing, because the casing itself sits in front of the facade.

That is why I fit the deterrence directly to the casing, using spikes or cover profiles matched to the respective blind mechanism. Which one I use depends on the exact construction, since every blind mechanism is built slightly differently. You can find more about the selection on system selection based on construction. The blind can still be retracted and extended afterwards.

I install using rope access or from a lifting platform and secure the pavement section underneath while I work. It works differently with a wasp nest in the same casing, where I treat the nest instead of fitting anything.
