Old Town Commission and Heritage Conservation

Under Article 58 of the Brig-Glis building and zoning regulations (Bau- und Zonenreglement), Old Town Zone A aims to preserve the architectural unity and protect historically and architecturally valuable buildings. Every structural change there must fit into the historical townscape, and the old town commission reviews building projects in advance. Article 59 provides for the same review in the village core zone. Article 59 also names Bahnhofstrasse and Furkastrasse as protected zones, to which the old town provisions apply correspondingly.

For building applications concerning a building that the cantonal heritage conservation authorities have designated as worth protecting, Article 37 requires their opinion to be obtained. None of these articles mention nets or spikes.

More Lead Time Before Installation

If an address lies in one of these zones or the building is designated as worth protecting, I check before quoting whether the installation needs a review or a building application. I describe my usual process on the main page, from the professional removal of droppings and nesting material to the installation.

So expect more lead time than for a house outside these zones. I also clarify things in advance for spider webs at Sebastiansplatz, where access is the issue.

Process

Lead Time Before Installation

01

Assess the Facade

I look at the facade, whether in the old town zone, the village core zone or on a building designated as worth protecting.

02

Clarify Before Quoting

I clarify whether the old town commission or the cantonal heritage conservation authorities must be involved before I quote.

03

Fix It Discreetly

I fit net, tensioned wire or spike cleanly and discreetly, matched to the construction.

04

Installation With Lead Time

I plan in the lead time, then I install by rope or from the lifting platform.
